Webster, NY–They’re packed and ready to go. But this group from Webster Schroeder High School isn’t taking your typical spring break. They’re headed to New Orleans, still reeling from Hurricane Katrina which hit two and a half years ago. “The New Orleans people feel that they’ve been forgotten about. That was one of our bigger inspirations is hearing that,” says the trips Co-Organizer, Courtney Cannon. Nine high school staff members will cram into an RV to make the 22 hour road trip. Once they get there, they’ll build homes for Habitat for Humanity and help out Catholic Charities throughout the 10 day stay. But once school officials came up with the idea, other ways to help out just began to snow ball. One idea was schools helping schools. They’re collecting school supplies to give to a school in need. Anything still needed, Cannon says, they’ll buy using the seven thousand dollars they’ve raised through individual and business donations. “We know there’s a lot of schools down there in need of anything and everything.” There is a downside to the whole thing. Due to last minute planning, students aren’t allowed to come. That is disappointing to Junior, Andrew Ford. “I would love to be a part of that. I know a lot of students would love to be a part of that just to help Katrina cause it’s part of our country that really still needs help. ” Now, help is on the way.Check the video here: http://websterhfh.wordpress.com/pictures-videos/
